Mission
BMM further strengthens the world-leading position of the Netherlands in the field of biomedical materials and will deliver successful medical applications, intellectual property rights and scientific publications that will lead to sustainable economic growth. BMM will integrate the multidisciplinary strengths in biomedical materials of the leading industrial and academic players.

In the BMM program, the Netherlands achieves the ideal technology and business platform to become a world leader in biomedical materials. Alongside the participation of large industrial companies and academia, BMM will actively encourage the participation of SMEs and will stimulate start-ups within the field of biomedical materials.

In this way, further expansion and utilization of the platform will lead to increased employment opportunities and sustainable economic growth.

Vision
In the coming years, biomedical materials will play a key role in enabling breakthrough innovations in a variety of medical disciplines. Through these breakthroughs the healthcare sector is able to respond effectively to the socio-economic trends.

Biomedical materials will increase the efficiency of medical treatment by reducing the need for today's invasive surgical procedures and by dramatically shortening post- treatment recovery times. For instance, open heart surgery to place an artificial valve will be replaced by regenerating the damaged valve using tissue-engineering techniques.

Efficacy of treatment will be increased through offering more sustainable procedures that will avoid revision surgery. These innovative treatments will reduce overall direct, procedural costs (e.g., by shortening hospital stay) and indirect healthcare costs.
